The competition brief called for the development of an Alumni Complex incorporating an Alumni House and the redevelopment of Kent Ridge Guildhouse, each with its own requirements and brief. But of utmost importance is the creation of a vibrant activity hub that is relevant to today's under-graduates and tomorrow's leaders, and creating a home on campus for all members to enjoy.

The masterplan guidelines have laid down the broad parameters to achieve cohesion in the physical expression of the current and future developments. Of main consideration is the creation of a strong sense of place and a distinct Kent Ridge character, a vibrant place for work, relaxation and interaction, making connections physically and visually, and as the centre of activities, networking and a home away from home.

The harmonious relationship between the new Kent Ridge Guild House and Alumni House is achieved. Here, the central courtyard space, called the Alumni Terrace, plays an active role in bringing the activities of both buildings together. - the Alumni Terrace with varying ponds, stepping ground, socialising terraces, tropical greeneries, is intended to be the 'spawning ground' for the fertilization of ideas, a meeting place for the alumni and a centre of activities. A place one must come and return to . . . . . . . . . a place that is always warm, welcoming with a relax air to it.
